Thank you to everyone who attended the online Christmas cracker workshop. Children built interactive animations that selected random jokes from a list. You can view one of the projects here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/462933204/ Here’s wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and may your cracker jokes be funny as ours!

First Coding will be running the popular creative Christmas Coding Workshop next month for 7 to 11 year olds. Using Scratch, we’ll be learning how to make our own animated cracker joke generators. All our workshops are currently being hosted online via Zoom.
It’s time to get festive and creative!
Saturday 12th December 2pm – 4pm
£20 per pupil | Bookings: hello@firstcoding.co.uk

Listeners to BBC Radio Wiltshire will be able to hear all about some of the great projects coming out of First Coding tomorrow morning. Hopefully the projects featured will demonstrate that even the most simplest of ideas can often be the most fun and creative. The game design idea that is being launched shortly is also revealed as we plan for a creative Christmas. I’ve been told the interview will be aired on the Breakfast Show tomorrow morning. The link will also be posted when it’s made available.

There were so many great projects that came out of the Christmas Coding workshop last week. The children first started by building animated Christmas scenes before adding interactive crackers. Clicking on a cracker reveals a joke selected at random from a list of terrible jokes. You can sample some of the crackers and their jokes here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/354037013/.

Festive fun with First Coding!

Here are a couple of winners from the Christmas Python coding competition I ran this month in one of the schools here in Salisbury. Each pupil had a couple of sessions with me as we covered the basics and got them building a basic personal assistant bot. They were then encouraged to run with the project in their own time which they did in their own brilliant way. With over 60 pupils signing up, judging was a really difficult task. Below are a couple of winners, just hit the play button to run the code and have a play.
